Image-based industrial ID reader saves hundreds of thousands of dollars
An electronics manufacturer produces thousands of different part numbers of electronic products intermixed on the same assembly line. The difficulty in identifying parts, combined with the fast pace of the line, resulted in a large amount of rework or scrap. The manufacturer had experienced several hundred thousands of dollars a year in losses when incorrect parts were added to, and/or the wrong operations were performed, on assemblies.

Manufacturing higher quality razor blades while reducing cost
When German manufacturer, Feintechnik GmbH, needed to identify defective razor parts, they collaborated with trusted partner, SmartVision, to develop an inspection system to ensure product quality—at a speed of up to 1.5 million individual parts per day.

A production facility for triple-bladed razor heads has been equipped with ten Cognex In-Sight® vision systems to detect every potential defect. Four inspection stations scrutinize
13 individual parts that are combined to form the razor
blade units.

The new system ensures quality with 100% automated in-line inspection and verifies assembly, which eliminates defects and reduces scrap while lowering overall manufacturing costs.
Verifying the Presence of all Bottles in a Case
A beverage manufacturer was experiencing problems with packing bottles in cases. The case packing equipment would occasionally not fill the case with the required 12 bottles. Standard photoelectric sensors arranged in an array could not reliably check for the required 12 bottles due to variations in the case position.

A Checker vision sensor can reliably determine if all 12 bottles are in the case, even though the case is not precisely fixtured. First, Checker’s part finding sensor locates the case on the conveyor. Then, 12 of Checker’s pattern sensors verify that the all bottles are present.

Checker allowed the manufacturer to replace 12 photoelectric sensors and a trigger sensor to eliminate any need for mechanical fixturing. Quality and yields were improved and production line speed increased.
