Vision Systems Update

Visteon supplies instrument clusters for many car models across Europe. The instrument cluster involves the appliqué, a plastic sheet incorporating the speedo and tacho markings.
Each appliqué must be precisely clipped into position, otherwise the vibration from driving could result in incorrect speed and revs being shown.

To ensure accurate assembly verification, it was decided to bring in a powerful vision system which could not only could cope with Visteon’s high-volume cluster production but also fit within the confines of the allocated space...

Declan McCabe, Applications Engineer at Alphr Technology was responsible for the electrical design, software development and installation of the In-Sight Micro from Cognex.

Customer safety: Previously, filling systems that were not equipped with a visual checking system could not completely guarantee that no particles of dirt from the preliminary production stage would be inside toothpaste tubes after the filling and sealing process.

German company, IWK Verpackungstechnik GmbH relies on vision systems from Cognex in its latest packing machines for 19mm to 40mm wide tubes.

Economic and flexible vision systems: During the course of the filling process, the In-Sight cameras check that the tubes are round, clean and firmly sealed. In-process inspection has allowed the number of cameras to be reduced from six conventional units previously to just two In-Sight cameras per checking station.
