Procter & Gamble’s (P&G) manufacturing plant in India is operating multiple packing lines, three shifts, seven days a week. They manufacture more than 50 detergent types ranging from 13gm to 4kg in size – all packaged in similar laminate colours.
P&G India must ensure that both the correct detergent types are wrapped with the correct laminate and that the correct maximum retail price (MRP) is printed correctly on each package. If the wrong MRP is printed, it could lead to retailers over or under pricing products, which could affect profit margins.
P&G India conducted two separate rounds of inspection and verification manually to:
- Ensure that the right laminate packaging was placed on the right packing lines
- Determine that the MRPs for the respective laminates were printed correctly
This process was not only time consuming, but also brought with it the risk of human error by performing the inspections manually. P&G India needed an alternative solution to manual inspection to reduce both the risk and cost of production.
